I am coming to the end of my second year at university studying Neuroscience and Psychology at King’s College London. I have a niche interest in cognitive decline within neurodegenerative diseases, exclusively within the domain of neural and physiological markers, which has led to my interest in perusing a career in research. I am particularly passionate about tailoring this around sociodemographic and racial groups that have not been prioritised. Being a naturally inquisitive person I like to look at research through an everything-but-the-kitchen-sink approach, and this is why I am drawn to using data science  to address real-world problems. I have acquired skills in coding in R and recently have began developing my Matlab proficiency as I enjoy the freedom this provides. Coding allows me to answer my own questions via interrogating data sets in many different ways. This internship is an amazing opportunity to improve my programming skills, work in a multidisciplinary team of software developers, clinicians and academics and aligns with future objectives of mine, as it is the perfect amalgamation of scientific rigour and human interaction, while taking part in research that has positive societal impacts.
